Pre-construction
Steps
Before construction begins,
Tibma Design Build ensures that your home will be protected from the dust and
dirt that is inevitable during a remodeling project. We put up dust barriers
between the work zone and the rest of your home. Using state-of-the-art
protective materials, we protect your floor and carpeting to make sure that it
is kept clean and in the same condition as the day we began work.
We will discuss with you where you would like to have tools, construction
materials, cabinets, and appliances stored during the remodeling process.
Tibma Design Build will set up
a temporary kitchen for kitchen remodeling projects for you with your existing refrigerator, cooktop and
microwave. A sink can also be temporarily installed for your convenience.
Remodeling Hints
Here are some helpful things that you can do to get ready for the remodeling
project that will make the process easier for you and ensure that
areas beyond the construction zone are safe from any damage:
-
If you have a fish tank or
electrical equipment in close proximity to the workspace, make sure they are
well covered.
-
Move all pictures, mirrors, and
furniture away from the walls of adjacent rooms—vibrations from the construction
could cause damage.
-
Don’t forget about your pets! If
there isn’t an area in your home to keep them safely away from construction,
especially during certain phases, it may be the perfect time to treat your pet
to a vacation at the kennel or a play date at a friend’s home.
-
Items that are fragile should be
marked accordingly and stored in an area away from the construction.
For a kitchen remodeling project:
-
As a fond farewell to your old
kitchen, spend some time in it. Cook family favorites and throw them in the
freezer…you’ll thank yourself later!
-
In the weeks before the work
begins, keep a list of all the restaurants you’ve been meaning to try. When the
microwave gets old, your list will come in handy for a quick escape!
-
Set up a table for eating and food
preparation, preferably near your temporary kitchen.
-
Put small appliances like your
toaster and coffeemaker in the temporary kitchen with related items like coffee
and filters close at hand.
-
Don’t forget cleaning supplies and
dishtowels.
-
Pack up the kitchen and put
everyday items like can openers, sharp knives, and bottle openers in your
temporary kitchen. Ordinary items like condiments, cereal, and salt and pepper
should be easily accessible. You may want to stock up on paper plates, napkins,
and disposable silverware.
-
When separating out the items
you’ll need for the temporary kitchen, it’s a great time to “spring clean” your
shelves. Don’t forget to label your boxes well. This will make the unpacking
process a lot easier.
